People living in homes have realized the benefits of a home security system, yet for some reason an apartment alarm system is overlooked by those living in a highrise apartment or an apartment within a house.  Apartment dwellers tend to be under the impression they are safer in their apartment than a house, and therefore don’t need an apartment alarm system.  This false sense of security is just that, false.  Just like a house, an apartment can be broken into, whether through the door, or through a balcony window, so if you live in an apartment, protect yourself and your valuables with an apartment alarm system!

In addition to getting an apartment alarm system to ensure your safety, here are additional apartment and condominium living security tips for your consideration:

Always keep your doors locked and your sliding doors and windows on your balcony, even if you are higher up.  There have been many break ins initiated through balconies.  An apartment alarm would obviously catch that one.apartment alarm system by ge

One important task when moving in to an apartment is to ensure that the locks have been changed.  If you can’t confirm that the property manager has done this, then do it yourself!  Many break ins are really just previous tennants walking in with their own key!   It’s amazing how many keys can be out there for YOUR apartment!  This is one very easy and affordable way to protect your valuables.  Of course, if you have an apartment alarm you’ll catch those old tennants anyways.

If you live on the ground floor, an apartment security alarm system is a must.  In addition to that you should seriously consider installing window bars on the windows and sliding doors.  Though sometimes just posting a sign that you are protected by a home security system is enough to stop would be burglars.

If you don’t have a peephole on your hallway door, install one.  This is a super cheap and easy way to protect your personal safety when there is a knock on the door.  This could prevent an apartment invasion, which are becoming all to common.

Another no cost security measure is to live in a building that has a doorman.  A doorman can help ensure that people entering the building really belong there.  This does not guarantee the bad guys won’t get in, so I would still recommend an apartment alarm system.

Hopefully these tips will get you thinking about your own personal apartment security and safety.  If you haven’t done so already, definitely consider an apartment alarm system, either with door and window sensors, or with a motion sensor alarm system.  Next time, I’ll write about the top apartment alarm systems currently on the market.
